History, the W3C & web standards

The World Wide Web was started in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee, whom is the president of the 'W3C' (started in 1994) which is the governing body for web standards, developing specification guidelines to establish an international standard across the technologies accessible via the internet. Well worth a quick look w3c - history.
With such complex issues - the W3C gives us as webdesigners direction and references to deliver high quality work - if you are curious to find out more please visit this page for new visitors on the w3c website.

More about getting the most out of web sites

The BEST way to view web sites!

Most of us browsing the internet are viewing web sites by using Internet Explorer (Microsoft) from a PC. It really is surprising that I E is not web standard compliant (please see below)! Web standards refer to guidelines set by the W3C which are interenally agreed upon. Web designers who follow these standards when creating their websites (may) have to 'hack' their code just to ensure the correct display of their sites in IE. This is obviously is not good at all. Although IE is trying to upgrage (catch up), the best 'browser' is 'Firefox' - and help is at hand, as you may easily and safely download this FREE browser here.

Getting good ....

For those of you who are a little more adventurous and curious - there is a large number of 'add-ons' (services you can do; such as hide images, see the size of areas!) availble for Firefox - these are plugins which work from within the browser and make our lives more fun. Again, you may download them easily and safely from free from Firefox - simply click the image below.
